Not only Office, Windows 10 is also refreshed icon set

Not only the Office suite refreshes familiar icon sets that even Windows 10 refreshes system icons. Jon Friedman, the director of Office design at Microsoft, said the change was systemic and across Microsoft.

He says Office is just the beginning of an effort to update the entire logo in a way that is in the Microsoft ecosystem. In his blog post, Friedman also posted a few iconic concept images of applications such as Photos, News, Mail and many other Windows-based applications.

Currently Windows 10 is still using the icon mix between new and old, some icons have a lifetime of more than 10 years. Of course, these icons have outdated designs and are no longer compatible with the design of Windows 10. Microsoft has continually improved the interface design of Windows 10 to make it more modern, It is located in the old Control Panel to Windows Settings and this time, the company focused on icon design. Hopefully Microsoft will make the right place, change all the time to bring about a more consistent experience.

Speaking about the new logo design, Microsoft emphasized: "The logo is carefully designed, honoring the heritage and welcoming the future." On Friedman's post on medium.com, he says the new icons are designed around the long history of Office. The choice of strong color tones is always the core design element of Office so new icons continue to exploit these tones. The color difference of the application icon creates its own identity and the new icon adds shades to create a more focused, light and friendly look.

Friedman says the design team also uses Gestalt design principles to further emphasize product variations. Simplicity and harmony are important visual elements that reflect the seamless connectivity and visualization of tools in the Office suite.Although each icon is unique, you still recognize the relevance between them in the application suite.

Basically, the new icons will consist of two parts with two panels, one for the character, such as Word will have a panel containing the letter W and the other panel shows the characteristics of the application, Typical is paper. Similar to Excel, it includes X and spreadsheet cells.

In addition to the trend of modern design, the application icon will also no border around. The logo is from 2003 to 2013 and the latest is 2018.

Facebook and MIT use AI to address 4 billion siblings in remote areas
